Its True: Even Encouragers Get Discouraged

This past weekend was the tipping point of something that has been brewing for some time. With recent changes in our lives, I’ve found myself overwhelmed, but doing what many of us do best… powering through. In considering the space I’ve been in, I would say that while I am being processed spiritually, it has been weighing on me physically - causing exhaustion and almost a sense of isolation. Warfare for sure.

So, there was a nudge in my spirit, calling me to get before the Lord. Let me first say, I’ve gotten to know El Roi - the Lord who sees - in such a real and intimate way in the last season. Right when I feel like I’m about to break, He sends that subtle message that lets me know that He sees, He knows, and He is holding me in His hands.

In the last week, I’ve received about 4 or 5 messages, one from a person I haven’t heard from in over 4+ years. The message was so timely. Have you ever received a message from someone who said that you had been on their minds and they wanted to be obedient in reaching out? How many times has the message been exactly what you needed? That’s God in human form!

I love the beauty of His strategies.

After receiving the message, I took that as a sign to be obedient and get before the Lord, pour out my heart, and just listen to what He had to say back. Oftentimes, we pray in haste, but I challenge you to just rest there.

As I sat there, the song Jireh by Elevation Worship & Maverick City came on. There’s a part where Naomi Raine sings “If He dresses the lilies with beauty and splendor, how much more will He clothe you? How much more will He clothe you? If He watches over every sparrow, how much more does He love you? How much more does He love you?” This led me to Matthew 6:25-34. In the Message, there was a part that reads, “Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions.” While soak means to be saturated with liquid by being immersed in it, steep means to soak an item in liquid in order to gradually add or remove components to or from the item. Dictionary.com lists synonyms as infuse, permeate, bury or engulf. It's easy to conclude that the word steep is done with intentionality and great expectancy of change or transformation.

So, the scripture tells us to “soak (infuse, permeate, bury or engulf) your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions in order to gradually add or remove components from our lives”. I envisioned this as an exchange. That the intentionality in the choice of the word “steep” was so that we may be encouraged in allowing our lives to be influenced and gradually altered as God adds His characteristics while simultaneously diminishing (removing) our carnal nature with each impartation, infusion.

Between the song and the scripture, which is meant to minister to the anxious, I felt God say “Daughter, I see what you are enduring, I know how you feel, but continue to trust Me” We often want to be delivered out of seasons that are meant to equip, stretch and build us. So, as if I didn’t get the message, the next song that came on was “Wait on You”, and the chorus constantly says “So, I’m gonna wait on You, yes I’m gonna wait on You. I’ve tasted Your goodness, trust in Your promise, I’m gonna wait on You.” and if that isn’t enough, the bridge says “so, wait on the Lord. Wait on the Lord. He will renew your strength, so wait I say.”

As I write this, I recall that either late December, early January I heard the Lord say that “worship will get you through this next season”. And I don’t know who else that is for, but, while we go through this season of stretching, pressing, pruning, and repositioning - which is uncomfortable and sometimes to a point where we want to let go or break - don't let go, just WORSHIP! I recall the story of Paul and Silas which is the perfect example of what happens when you pray and praise - it shakes the very foundation! It grants freedom, breaks chains, establishes provision, and delivers breakthrough. All that we need is in the Lord, He is all and more than enough.

I understand that in my exhaustion, the enemy could easily take advantage and have me down for the count. Our physical exhaustion can quickly become a portal for the enemy to wreak havoc. But PRAISE AND WORSHIP confuses the enemy. The Good News version of 2 Chronicles 20:22 says, “When they began to sing, the Lord threw the invading armies into a panic.” When the enemy begins to invade your thoughts, when you start acting out of emotions that have not been submitted to God, when you don’t quite feel like your usual self - PRAISE your way through! Worship and bask in His presence. He inhabits the praises of His people.

PRAISE AND WORSHIP confuses the enemy.

Use your weapons… sis… bro… even encouragers get discouraged. But, we have been equipped with armor that thwarts the plans of the enemy.

So, my prayer is that you rest in God. All that has you burdened shall be brought to the feet of Jesus and handed over to Him to handle. While life happens, I pray that you are equipped with the strength to endure, to wait on the Lord, and to be kept. He is a Keeper and a very present help. I also take this time to encourage you to seek with intentionality the small subtle messages that the Lord sends. He sees, He knows and He is forever speaking, rendering what our souls need. So, may we never miss His subtlety, His beauty in all things, and underestimate His love for us. Human minds cannot even begin to comprehend His affection towards us. And I pray that you find peace in knowing that He loves you that much. Let Him be your all. Joy and peace is your portion. In Jesus Name.

We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ,
